Examples Of Herding Dogs (Part 2)

Briard: People find the Briard to be aesthetically pleasing. The most striking feature is the beautiful long straight coat. However, the upkeep is clearly a chore. Large and very strong, this breed is not for the feeble and can take control of your life using his intelligence and dominant tendencies. Become an accomplished dog trainer and you can enjoy one.

Collie (Rough): The collie is a nice-looking breed made famous by Lassie films. Their hair is long and needs daily brushing in order to maintain healthy skin and a beautiful coat. Although this breed was developed to herd sheep, the working character has been bred out over many years. As a result we get a nice dog that is best kept as a house pet.

The collie is a reasonable choice for those with children, a yard, time to keep up the grooming, and the energy to keep this breed occupied. The collie not hyperactive, but if allowed to become bored, they may bark and whine in excess. The collie is a sensitive breed that benefits from close owner contact. They enjoy social activities with their families, including long walks, a game of fetch, or a nice long brushing.

German Shepherd Dog: For many trainers, the German shepherd dog  is a personal favorite. The medical problems associated with this breed, though, are many. The standards for correctness are based on whether the dog is of working or show bloodlines. The breeders of working dogs prefer a straighter back, less croup. They feel that this creates a stronger rear and fewer problems with anal fistulas. Hip dysplasia runs rampant in this breed, and even the most well-bred dogs can be afflicted. The German shepherd may also have inherent health problems such as chronic colitis, epilepsy, and skin disease.

The character of a well-balanced, well-bred German shepherd dog is one of nobility and strength. When a German shepherd dog enters a room, he should create a noticeable presence. The breed should not be overly friendly or suspicious. They possess great ability in terms of training. This breed has a lot of initiative but is generally very handler compliant.

If the dog is a strict indoor house pet the double coat is a nightmare with its heavy shedding and bountiful tufts of hair everywhere. You eat them, breathe them, wear them, and sleep in them. When the dog spends more time outdoors the shedding is less noticeable.
